Randy and Interior Designer Joann Fullen, represented Astorino's entry on an episode of HGTV's Designers Challenge. They won this competition with a design that met the needs for both a functional and aesthetic room that reflected the contemporary flavor of the rest of the home. The project involved designing and furnishing a space to function as a multipurpose room for reading, home theater, media storage as well as wine tasting. To achieve the owner's desire for a Zen-like space, a variety of materials and furnishings were selected. A cork fabric on one wall provides a backdrop for the floating, chunky wood shelves with recessed puck lighting. The cabinetry below the shelving conceals state of the art audio visual equipment. The owners requested storage for books, which was created in a corner unit as well as in the sofa table, which has two open shelves for book storage. The custom cocktail table contains four benches upholstered in red leather that can be pulled out for additional seating.
